baby 5 months can't sit still when I read to her? I know I have to read to my baby a lot, but how do I read to her if she doesn't sit still? She would rather eat books then isten to me reading. Is this usual for 5-6 months old babies?

ღ♫PяєgŋaŋtWith#1 Duє Jaŋ19♫ღ replied: "Yes, they aren't going to sit still and really pay attention. Just keep reading to her, and the more you do it, the more she will get interested."

lakedusty replied: "No, this is the norm"

Pedsgurl replied: "Very common! I read to my baby while she is laying on her back playing on the floor. I lay next to her and hold the book up so she can see the pages. Seems to work for us! Hope this helps!"

Tawni B replied: "This is very normal..give her some hard copy books and small toys to chew on, let her play while you read...when she is older, around 18 months she will start sitting longer and longer. Making reading part of your routine now will help make it part of hers as she becomes a young lady and eventually an adult. Good luck and keep up the reading."

McMom replied: "That's completely normal, my daughter is 7.5 months and it takes me about 10-15 minutes to read her a 5 page book. Apparently the book tastes nicer than it sound. Luckily though -- if you read them often enough you end up mesmerising the whole story of every book they have so you can just tell it while baby flips pages and gnaws."

Jack's Mom replied: "I read a book called the snuggliest snuggle in the world to Jack. It is only six pages long and has big colorful pictures. He stays interested for the first page or two because of the colors. Babies usually will not sit still for a book but if try and find something age appropriate, they are visually stimulated while hearing your voice at the same time. Another book that Jack pays attention too is a tactile book. It has large raised areas that represent things like grass, leaves, and sand. Jack loves that one."

paps0130 replied: "This is completely normal for your 5 month old to not sit and read a story. It is however important for you to read to you child. Even if you don't read the book word for word, point to pictures and say what they are. Let your child explore the book as well on her own time. When she is chewing on the book that is her way of getting to know the object. Get her hard and soft books to read. That way she can feel the textures. As she gets older she will learn that it is time to read. She will know that reading is a happy one on one time with mommy."

Katie replied: "Just keep reading to them and they will begin to take more interest and to understand the way the interaction works. I've been reading to my son regularly since he was born and now at 9 months he is happy to sit and listen to a story and hardly ever tries to grab or chew the book. We started with board books with touch and feel patches and now we just read a mixture of board books and normal picture books. We visit the library every week and he loves it."

Dawny replied: "don't fret she won't want to sit that still at that age, be patient she will in time, do it for a couple of mins at a time so she doesn't get bored and get books which have the noises in them"

Barbara S replied: "Read to her anyway. My daughter is three months old and doesn't even really seem to pay attention when I read to her, but that's not what's important at her age. What matters is that reading is an additional opportunity for bonding with your baby, and whether she shows it or not, your baby loves to hear the sound of your voice. Try getting really animated when you read...most kids' books will afford you the ability to do this. Or, sit or lie her down in front of you, and let her look at your face instead of the book while you read. She might be more interested in seeing mommy at this point than pictures in a book. The more you read to her, the more she'll look forward to your special time together, and she'll eventually be old enough to be an active participant - as opposed to a passive one! - during storytime. Best of luck!"

i had a baby 5 months ago and i need to lose 20 pounds safely. Any good suggestions? I have a 5 month old that I am still breast feeding. So, I have to be careful on the diet and how drastic. I am having a hard time dropping 20Lbs. I already walk 30 minutes a day and eat healthy. Any suggestions?

Helpme2008 replied: "Drink lots of water and walk 2-3miles a day. I would start with 1 mile a day or every other day, then work your way up. Watch your eating portions, and if you really want to lose quick jog. Walking is just as good though. Good Luck!!!"

Myself™ replied: "Try this, you'll see and feel results in 2-3 days. The muscle will outweigh the fat so don't let the scale discourage you :) For exercise, try switching it up (Monday work on arms, Tuesday work on stomach, Wednesday work on legs, Thursday Rest, Friday Arms, Saturday Stomach, Sunday Legs) though you can choose your own schedule/plan. Try maybe using different machines for stomach or legs or arms so your body doesn't get used to it. Also, try increasing the amount of exercise you do every week. For eating, try portion control (70% of your diet is food intake but exercise is also important) eating the serving size and if there is no designated serving size, 1cup if it's a meal and 1/2 a cup if it's a snack. Breakfast- Whenever you choose Drink of choice- hour after breakfast (all other drinks being water; one cup of drink of choice) Lunch- 1hr after Drink of choice Snack- 1/2 cup, 1 hour after lunch Dinner- 2 hours after snack It doesn't matter WHAT you eat unless you're on a specific diet such as Atkins, it's mostly just How MUCH we take in and how OFTEN we take it in. I have problems with over-eating and I'll eat an ice cream, oh I want another and it's not b/c I'm hungry it's b/c I have a craving for it and it feels like I can't wait. Also, eating out of boredom, try drinking water often to prevent hunger. I also have this problem and especially when I'm exercising. (Try buying a treadmill or a few exercising supplies or maybe you can get a gym subscription) and bring with you in an insulated glass/mug full of ice b/c I always and alot of other people always want a little something to feel like their eating or munching on and this is perfect b/c it's hydrating and you get the little munch out of it. Also, how I said about buying some equipment or gym subscription, I'd recommend you buy your own that way you pay a little extra and the rest is free not 1/2 the price every month or whatever. Try buying about the things (one for legs, one for stomach, one for legs and maybe as you get more into, you could add more). Also, if you lift weights try increasing the amount of weight each weeks or two. :) Hope this helps! Good luck! Also, calculate your intake so you know how much to work towards burning plus extra for the muscle :) I'm twelve and this has always worked for me b/c I have a fat gene and I always maintained my weight and lost it if I got off track :) Also, go to youtube.com and search 8 minute abs, 8 minute buns, 8 minute arms, and 8 minute legs and do one video ONE time a day, trust me only once. :)"

december replied: "try to walk about 45 min is weight lost , try to do some yoga if you can workout twice a day it help to lose weight faster and remember drink a lot of water"

Could I be pregnant again after having a baby 5 months ago? I had a baby 5 months ago and I am exclusively breastfeeding. I have not had a period yet, but I have been feeling like I am going to start for the past week and a half. my husband and i have been using the pull out method and we do not think we have had any accidents... I had heard that breastfeeding was a good form of birth control as well...did any other mothers remember feeling like they were going to start for a long time before getting their first period after birth? thanks.

♥ God Bless Our LEO ♥ replied: "I have a four year old son and a three year old daughter to prove that breastfeeding isn't a good contraceptive."

jaime l replied: "Very very very possible, not healthy if you are pregnant. You should wait at least a year before getting pregnant again."

♥Lottie♥ Bump due Dec 4th replied: "Yes. Breastfeeding & 'the pull out method' aren't forms of contraceptive."

riddle-me-this replied: "yes it is possible breastfeeding dose not prevent pregnancy m brother and sister are exactly 10 months appart and mine will be exactly 12 months appartand I breastfed."

KPNJ replied: "Yes you can be, I would take a pregnancy test even if you have not had a period which is strange because I breastfed and had a period. Breastfeeding is not a form of birth control. A friend of mine got pregnant 2 months after having her first and she was also breastfeeding and using the pull out method, which does not work by the way. Its a common misconception that breastfeeding will prevent pregnancies, then there would be no need for the term Irish Twins."

shelly rene due 8/23/09 replied: "the pull out method is no form of birth control.....there is a such thing called pre*** that has sperm in it there for you can get pregnant from it.....no man in the world knows when he pre***s.....pre*** is a clear lubricant that does have sperm in it......and breastfeeding is no form of birth control either......i dont know where you got any of your current info from but you need to "throw it out the window""

Noelle (MSWS July 4, 2009) replied: "Breastfeeding and the pull out method are not effective forms of birth control. Even though you are breastfeeding exclusively, you should also be on birth control. I know a woman who got pregnant with her second child 6 weeks after giving birth because she thought breast feeding and not having had her period yet would stop her. It didn't. You may or may not be pregnant. It could be your period finally coming (it takes a while to come again especially if you are breastfeeding). Just to be safe, wait 2 or 3 more weeks and then take a test. If before that you have a period you are not pregnant."

C replied: "Pull out method is basically no birth control because the pre ejaculate can have sperm in it. Breastfeeding is also no birth control because while it does prevent ovulation for some time, ovulation can began at any point and you have no idea when. You very possibly could be pregnant. If you are not, and do not want to be, you need to use birth control. Condoms, the mini-pill something."

Mommy 2 Ameera due 7/17 replied: "not a very smart choice in preventing pregnancy. The pull out method is not very reliable due to the fact that pre-ejaculate has sperm in it, and is present whenever men are aroused. I am expecting baby number 2 due to the pull out method. Believe me, I will be using two forms of actual birth control from now on"

KRL 2-21-09 replied: "Yes, the pull out method is never a good form of birth control and breastfeeding is not at all foolproof. Use condoms or find another method of birth control safe for when you are breastfeeding."

Cray replied: "I know someone that had a baby and 6 weeks later found out she was pregnant again. Yes, you could be pregnant."

angel3 replied: "heck yes i didn't have my period for almost 8 months after my daughter was born and i have breast fed 3 kids and no it is not a good form of birth control. u can get a test but i would not think u r because the same thing has happened to me exactly as u explained it. good luck and if u dont want another baby u should use protection. there is birth control u can take while breast feeding . good luck mom of 2 handsome boys and 1 beautiful daughter"

anonymous replied: "pulling out is not very affective so it's possible that you are if you have been having sex"

Could I be pregnant on Implanon has anyone ever had a healthy baby on this bc, just had a baby 5 months ago? My daughter is not even 5 months old, and I think I am pregnant again. I am just worried that the baby will be okay. Has anyone ever had a baby when they were on implanon. And had the baby be healthy. Thank You!!

@ replied: "The chance of you being pregnant on the implanon are so low. It is 99.9% effective. Chances are that your hormones are still everywhere following the birth of your baby & getting the implanon, giving you pregnancy like symptoms. Usually it takes up to 6 months for the symptoms to settle down & your body to adjust to the implanon."

my baby is 5 months i still have urinary leaks after exercise what can i do? Please help me I had a baby 5 months ago, and whenever i exercise of any sort I always have urine leakage, I try doing kegels is there any other thing to do, or do i just need to sit in wet underwear for the rest of my life?

sokokl replied: "It sounds like you have more going on with your pelvic floor muscles such as like with urinary incontinence (an example only). I would recommend a consultation with a special type of OB/GYN called a urogynecologist. These doctors are specialists in pelvic floor issues and can help you figure out what is causing the problem now. If you need more information about how these doctors work please e-mail me off site. Please put in the subject "Urogynecology links" so that I know what it's in regards to."

I had a baby 5 months ago and let my milk dry up, what herbs/ hormones will I need to start lactating again? I really want to breastfeed, or if not then at least pump my milk...I know its alot of work, but Im just wondering what will make me start producing miilk again?

Nurse JC replied: "You would need to see a lactation consultant. In the meantime you need to pump every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. It will probably take at least 72 hours before you will start to see any milk. It can also be beneficial to drink mothers tea, eat oatmeal and maybe try fenugreek. You are going to need help to get the baby latched on because it has been so long. Congratulations on choosing to breastfeed"

mom of 3 replied: "there is something call milkmaid tea that will increases your milk supply one of my Friends got some after her milk dried up and she was able to breastfeed longer. god bless you and your family"

mystic_eye_cda replied: "http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/relactation.html Some mothers use herbal supplements, such as fenugreek or blessed thistle, to stimulate milk production. You can usually buy these at health food stores or herb shops and occasionally at some large supermarkets or pharmacies. For more information see What is a galactagogue? Do I need one? ...Herbal remedies for increasing milk supply. There are also several prescription medications that increase milk supply. These herbal and pharmaceutical methods for stimulating milk supply will not be particularly effective unless combined with frequent nursing and/or pumping. What is a galactagogue? Do I need one? ...Herbal remedies for increasing milk supply Prescription drugs used for increasing milk supply There are several prescription drugs that have been used to increase milk supply: Metoclopramide (Reglan), Domperidone (Motilium), and sulpiride (Eglonyl, Dolmatil, Sulpitil, Sulparex, Equemote). The presence of an appropriate level of the hormone prolactin permits lactation to proceed normally. When a mother has low prolactin levels, milk supply may be affected. Prolactin levels are primarily regulated by inhibition: the presence of prolactin-inhibiting factors (dopamine is the principal one) keep prolactin levels in check. The drugs used for increasing milk supply work by blocking dopamine, which results in an increase in prolactin levels. These drugs do not work in all women and would not be expected to increase milk production in a woman who already has normal (high) prolactin levels. Reglan has often been used in the U.S.. One major side-effect of Reglan is severe depression; it is contraindicated in moms with a history of depression, and all moms who take this should keep an eye out for signs of depression. One of my sources advises all adoptive mothers to stay away from Reglan, since it has caused serious depression/anxiety in moms regardless of previous history. This depression side effect usually develops over 3-4 weeks, and goes away if mom discontinues the Reglan. Other side effects include diarrhea, sedation, gastric upset, nausea, seizures and extrapyramidal effects (twitching, etc.) Domperidone has been used successfully in Canada and other areas of the world, and has significantly fewer side effects than Reglan. It has been approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics for use in breastfeeding mothers, and has been given Lactation Risk Category L1 ("safest") in the 2004 edition of Medications and Mothers' Milk. It is not widely available in the U.S. - you may be able to get a compounding pharmacy to make it for you if your doctor prescribes it, or may also be able to order it from Canada or other countries). See the links below for more info. Sulpiride is commonly used in various countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa and Chile. The primary use for sulpiride is for schizophrenia (it is an antipsychotic and antidepressant), but it also increases serum prolactin levels and thus can enhance breast milk yield."

my daughter in law seems to be very depressed she is seeing a counseller. she had a baby 5 months ago and? imagining disturbing thoughts as in what if the baby is not my sons . no reason for anybody to even think that. she didnt know her real dad for years. worried bout her.what can i do to help.

Grant Ray came on 12/8/08! replied: "She has got to get to a dr fast...to get on some depression meds...she has ppd...post partum depression. It can get really bad, really fast. Just offer to help her with anything that she needs during this trying time for her..."

Ally replied: "she may have a form of postnatal depression try n get her to the doctor shell be fine xxx"

Jennywren replied: "She sounds like she has post natal depression. This is awful and needs professional involvement! You can be here for her-help out with baby, letting her rest more than she is doing. Let her know you care and that she can talk to you about anything! When you have this illness all thing get jumbled up- she will feel guilt and anger, then cry a lot! Best of luck to her xxx"

Em replied: "I'm not saying it is post natal psychosis, but this recent article from the Independent may be useful. I'm glad she got help quickly, and that you're there for her."

saved_by_grace replied: "My guess would be post partum depression. She needs to continue seeing the counselor and the family needs to be as supportive as they can."

Mum's Little ***Rain Man*** replied: "Hun its a terrible place to be i know very well, my depression started a few months after my twins were born, i became very withdrawn and never wanted to be around them, i was later diagnosed with clinical depression although similar to PND it does sound a lot like what i had which is clinical, i was sent for a physiological assessment and placed on medication, i did have to try a few before i found one that suited my needs took a while but i got there in the end, Just be there for her and listen ..wishing her all the luck in the world !"

Just had a baby 5 months ago and i lost the weight but not the 3 ugly stretch marks on my side any remedies? Any remedies or cremes or even a clinic where they can minimize them they are tiny but i never had them PLEASE HELP:{

Amatullah replied: "you can use shea butter.....and girlfriend just relax!"

~3 reasons for living~ replied: "YOU CANNOT GET RID OF THEM BUT YOU CAN USE PALMER'S COCOA BUTTER LOTION TO HELP MINIMIZE THE APPEARANCE- AS IN THE COLOR... A STRETCH MARK IS A SCAR AND YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR IT...."

killinhippies replied: "Massage with rose hip oil, it takes a while but be patient, i also heard that massaging the marks with coffee works too or just get Palmer's cocoa butter stretch marks lotion."

Cristal A replied: "tire that new stuff"

doopleloople replied: "Only three? Consider yourself blessed! Palmers works well, but since it is a scar it won't go all the way away, but it will fade."

the good egg replied: "Sorry, they don't go away. :( With time, they will lighten, but that is about as much as you are going to get w/out having them removed by a plastic surgeon."

butterflykisses replied: "you can use vitamin E - also, there are lasers that can help with removing stretch marks as well. Look up your local spa and esthetic for more info."

donnyandmelissa@att.net replied: "no..consider yourself lucky!!!I have them from one side of my stomach to the other and then from my pubic bone to a few inches above my belly button. stretch marks never ever go away but you can buy stuff to prevent them to come again with your next baby you get more and more the more kids you have. cocoa butter worked for me. but there is really expenseive cream you can buy if your stretch marks are purple the cream will make them blend in with your skin. but mine are almost clear you cant see them."

r83 replied: "I still have ugly stretch marks all over my stomach and my son is nearly 5! They do fade over time but you are lucky to only have 3 AND to have lost the baby weight! Vitamin E oil is very good but is fairly expensive I think there is surgical treatment available but again, VERY expensive."

gart k replied: "Lucky you for losing the weight so quickly. Strivectin SD is fantastic for stretchmarks, and also great as a face cream - the downside is it's really expensive. It's cheaper online though, so have a look and see if you can get a bargain."

how can i tighten my belly fat after having a baby 5 months ago? how can i lose my belly fat?

illusion_of_power08 replied: "sit ups"

Malfurion Stormrage replied: "pilates"

JDC replied: "hip hop abs work!!! lol it's a workout dvd... just yahoo it and find it online and order it. def working for me - had a baby not too long ago and it is tightening things up quite well. good luck."

Kara T replied: "vigorous sexual activity"

Karen replied: "Omg, this was a horrible problem for me. You should definitely check this out, its great "

how can i loose stretch marks on my tummy and the sagginess. i had my baby 5 months ago and i still look fat.? my skin on my stomach saggs. i guess cuz i gained a lot of weight with my baby i gained about 50 odd pounds. and i have lots of stretch marks. and i tried a lot of things for it and nothing seems to help.

SadieJane2006 replied: "im in the same boat except my daughter is now 14 months and i still have the strectch marks. the weight will eventually go away with diet but the marks never leave. sorry to be a downer...i will never wear a bikini again!!"

jimandmel8869 replied: "regardless of what anybody tells you, stretch marks will not go away. (unless you get surgery to remove them) the one thing you an do is lighten them. try palmers cocoa butter, it help firm it a little bit too."

zamira replied: "People tell you to do cocoa butter throughout and after the pregnancy; however, it does not always help. It sort of worked out for me, but I still got some stretch marks. I recently purchased this oil called "Bio-Oil" through drugstore.com. They say it's an excellent option. Also, do you know Brooke Burke, the model? Well, she uses an oil called Mother's Special Blend. Both of these products can be found for $11.99 or less. I'd give it a try."

Lindsay replied: "Strivectin (not sure if I spelled it right) works well for stretch marks. My boobs suddenly boomed from a medium C to a very high DDD. No lie. I used the cream for about 4 months and they're barely noticeable."

Irish replied: "When my friend had her baby she carried the weight around for awhile. She then started to walk for at least 1 hour every week...more when she could get away...and that helped her to really lose the weight and start to tone up again."

HaveFaith replied: "Sadly even after 2 years the weight and he stretch marks still rule my bellly...!i hate them!...oh!..i excersised!..for about two months...i lost 8lbs!!...i was exhausted!..."

sarah replied: "Tummy tuck and laser surgery. No amount of toning or scar cream will really make them leave."

keke519 replied: "If you are talking about excess baby weight, then it can take almost a year for some women to get back to normal (if there is a such thing after having a baby). Some women have extremely good genes and bounce right back. If you want a good indication about what to expect, look at a picture of your mother pre-pregnancy and compare it to the mom you know and love. If you are talking about saggy loose skin on your stomach after you have lost the baby weight, then a tummy tuck is the only answer. As for strectch marks, once you have them you are stuck with them (unless you get them cut off during your tummy tuck!). The key to those oils and creams is using them before the stretch marks appear to help prevent them and then somethimes they still don't work. I used pure vitamin E oil and cocoa butter everyday during my pregnany and still got stretch marks."

Reena S replied: "Stretch marks and scars can be removed by massaging cocoa butter, shea butter, Vitamin E oil or taking Vitamin E capsules. More home remedies are listed at "
